Lillian Phelan is a beautiful, independent writer who is still haunted by the abuse she suffered at the hands of a mentally ill mother. Ann Hagan, a young widow with two small children, faces a crisis in her life that she realizes she cannot handle alone. When cousins Lillian and Ann are reunited after 22 years at their ancestral home along the banks of the peaceful Delaware Canal, they discover an antique chest in the attic of Willow Wood that is filled with letters, diaries and journals written by the women who had lived there from the time of the American Revolution until the 20th century. Through the stories and secrets they uncover, Lillian and Ann learn that in every generation life is not easy—people suffer, cry bitter tears, and lose loved ones. With the help of the women who once graced the home they now share, Lillian and Ann try to find meaning in their own lives. But is their bond of blood and friendship powerful enough to give them the strength they need to face another of Willow Wood’s tragedies?

Tear of the Willow was my first purchase for my Kindle Fire (which I've had almost 5 months). I will admit I didn't think it would grip me the way it did right from the get go....I was wrong! It took me a week to read it and not because I'm a slow reader but, because I could have scoffed it up in a day, but I wanted to linger over it and really digest the words and story.....I savored each word. During that week, I thought & talked about it constantly! WOW....the words are powerful! It had a little bit of everything....humor, history, love and everyday life events that anyone who takes the time to read it will be able to identify with. I highly recommend it!Product details

Tears of the Willow Marie Murphy Duess 9780615761367 Books Reviews
I loved this novel and highly recommend it. In fact I plan to buy more copies for friends. There is some sadness but the immense love outweighs the sadness.
It was predictable and boring. Only part interesting was the battle of Trenton and the encampment at Washington Crossing Park.
Interesting book about a very historical area.
I couldn't put this book now from the moment I started reading. The attention to detail was spot on and the characters were extremely life like and had me crying. When a certain holiday comes this year, I know I will be thinking of this book and the ending!!!
My book club read Tears of the Willow this month and I think this was one of my favorites so far. I look forward to reading more of Marie Duess' books!
I enjoyed reading this book very much. Living in Bucks County, many of the places that were included in the book were familiar to me and I was able to envision the scene where the event was taking place. The story was dealing with a very sad situation, but manages to keep one upbeat through out. The emotional feelings, come alive. I could feel the sadness of the boy, who knew that his mom was very sick even while wanting it not to be so. For anyone who is going through a family crisis dealing with cancer, this would be a book that I would recommend they read to help them deal with the issues they face. It has a wonderful ending, even though it isn't what I was hoping would happen.
From the first paragraph to the final word, Marie Duess takes you on an enlightening and heart-wrenching journey. This is a book that you don't want to have come to an end as the characters come to life. You feel as though you know them. I could not put this book down! It will take you on a fascinating (and very factual) journey across generations of a family in Bucks County. Marie skillfully weaves their lives together creating an unforgettable story of loss, life and love. A MUST READ as "Tears of the Willow" is a novel that rivals "The Notebook". Hollywood will be fighting for the movie rights!
