I am a big fan of Mary Crawford's writing. I have read a number of her stories, with their intertwined characters and I always enjoy them a lot. Her characters are always a little damaged, emotionally, or physically, but in Tough she has gone a little further with the extent of the pain and suffering the characters have endured before they actually find true love and happiness. This book is grittier than many of its predecessors, yet I feel it benefits from that. I like that Crawford is exploring elements of abuse in her characters that she hasn't possibly touched on before. This lifts Tough even above some of her earlier works, which were excellent in their own rights.
Its a great story of a girl confronting her past and making new friends along the way. However, one minute shes like at a party and with no warning its like 5 days later. The jumping around makes it hard to follow.
Savannah begins her life as a child of parents who follow cult readers around. One day she and her sister are left in a parking lot and are seperated.
Savannah is forced to live on the streets where unfortunately her real trouble begins. She is taken in by a couple who sells her out for sex.
The sexual abuse that she receives scars her mentally and physically. She has a no relationship policy. But, things are changed when she meets Casey. He aids her in dealing with her past and shows her a better path.
Its a true HEA. But, if you have trouble dealing with abuse skip it. But, its a great book for someone who wants to read about real issues.
A good book that is somewhat sloppy.

The subject matter Mary Crawford covers in this 5th book of Hidden Hearts is an ever growing scare and issue in our country. As always, there is a heart for everyone and always the perfect person to share it with...if we can just get past our pasts...Mary teaches this to us every time.
Wonderful series
A Hidden Hearts Novel Book 5 Tough by Mary Crawford was a delightfully entertaining and gripping story filled with mystery, humor, mystery and adventure.
A lot more intense than I would normally think of for a sweet little romance, but I ended up really loving it. The plot has really stuck with me for a long time and I find myself thinking back to it every now and then. That's what I love about Crawford. She doesn't just give you potato chip romances and send you on your way. Her work can dig into really deep and intense subjects that I don't often see tackled in books, let alone romances. We need more books like this in the world.
